We aren't playing with a bass player.... what's all this doubleneck stuff? If you have had these thoughts and are wondering why my partner Pete and I aren't playing with a 3rd person, its simple: no one is willing to commit! I have tried to be good natured about it, but after a while you start adopting the world view that people are just full of shit, and about 80 percent of people with guitars out there have no right to call themselves musicians. They aren't willing to work for it! For so many years, finding that 3rd person kept me from playing the way I wanted to play, but this time around I am working around it. Hello people, Recently I was at a guitar store and I came across the Schecter Hellcat VI on sale. The guitar is what some people refer to as a baritone guitar. The bottom four strings are tuned like a bass, but the guitar has an extra b and e string. The tuning is exactly like a normal 6 string guitar, except an octave down. This guitar is different from a 6 string bass because it uses a shorter scale and uses lighter strings. The guitar has 3 single coil Duncan designed pickups and each pickup has its own on/off switch. I use these to control how much of a bass or treble sound I want. The dilema I encountered when using this guitar was should I use a guitar amp, or bass amp? I thought it sounded great through my Behringer bass rig, which uses an 8x10 bass cab. This setup was good for really percussive slap-style playing. Hello my dear audience! I recently acquired a surplus of free time, which I am using to practice alone in my house--and attempt to play in bands!  I sure have been practicing a lot lately! I have been playing the drums, the guitar, the banjo, the bass, you name it! If it was ever on sale at Guitar Center I probably have 2 of them! Well, I have been somewhat depressed at the lack of circle of musicians I have, so I ventured into the craigslist world of musician classified ads to find some people to play for or with. I had a man/woman music duo, (who are also dating) invite me out for a drink at a bar tonight or tomorrow in downtown detroit after responding to their ad. Hello people! Last night I was playing a show, and I stayed late to pack up the drums. The band that was playing last was a very talented group called Lavamoth . I had never heard of the band before. The group was pretty remarkable because the guitarist could play a lead on his guitar while playing a Moog synthesizer. His guitar playing reminded me of Zack Wylde without the pinch harmonics, he was definitely no slouch trying to showboat. The drummer played very well too. He was easily the best drummer out of the 4 bands I saw last night. Here is a youtube video of the band playing another show. This week I was at Wal-Mart and felt ambitious enough to buy a new cd player for my Scion XB. The one that came with it was not working. The radio worked, but the cd player had a habit of rejecting cds when you tried to load them, and scratching them at the same time! Here are some helpful hints when installing a cd player in a car. I am not an expert, I learned all of this stuff the hard way! 1. Always disconnect the battery when installing a cd player! I wasn't afraid of electrical shocks, which maybe I should have been. What really got my goat though, is that I made a short, and blew a fuse. It took me a second to find which one it REALLY was visually. However when I later had trouble getting the new cd player to work, I kept on assuming it was another blown fuse. I ended up buying 2 small boxes of fuses (that were low profile, not high profile) that didn't fit right even though they looked almost exactly the same! If it wasn't such a pain in the ass to post pictures...
